artist Statement
I believe observing the world is crucial to understand oneself, as well as those who surround you. My journey comes with the purpose of exposing my life and beliefs to people and vice versa. Art facilitates my expression in my journey. I use my photography in both a digital and sculptural form, while still representing the individual or situation through layering. By utilizing layers to speak about the complexity of our lives as well as the layers’ individuals have. Also, I use work to talk about spirituality in my own life and how it is irremovable to my person.
I am not one singular thing nor is anyone else. This is incorporated with a mix of graphics, textiles, paintings, and projection mediums. Both bringing a complexity through layering as well as a visual appeal. Each of us has experiences whether they may be spiritual, relational, and self-reflective. As I observe others, my perceptions, and understanding of each attribute to my knowledge of a wider variety of humanity. I share lives and stories of the people who surround me and imprint pieces of their journey in my life; thus, embracing all my different interests and understandings through different persons. A mutual exchange of intellectual and creative thought to full a community of ever-evolving change. My stylized imagery of individuals leads to different views and gazes in which I find essential to understand and be aware of whether it be to foster change at times or just as visual gratification. The understanding of the multiples, colors, and individual figures through my images that will expectantly lead people to link a little more than what they initially see, while also keeping in mind the background of I as the artist.
